Learn more about potency, plant types, and blends

Sativa and indica are 2 types, or strains of the cannabis plant. For best results, we recommend choosing cannabis products based on their THC, CBD, and terpene profiles instead of solely relying on sativa, indica, and hybrid plant types. While the scientific classification of cannabis is still ongoing, these 3 types are commonly used. However, due to years of breeding, most cannabis plants are classified as hybrids.

Sativa plants

Sativa plants are characterized as taller, slimmer plants with thin, narrow leaves, often growing in warmer climates.

Indica plants

Indica plants are characterized by short and bushy plants with broad leaves, typically growing in cooler environments.

Hybrid plants

Hybrid plants exhibit characteristics of both Sativa and Indica, varying in height, leaf shape, and colour.

THC dominant

THC dominant products feature high levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary compound responsible for producing intoxicating effects and the sensation referred to as “being high.”

CBD dominant

CBD dominant products feature high levels of cannabidiol (CBD), a cannabinoid that does not cause the intoxicating effects associated with THC when consumed at medically relevant doses.

Balanced blend

Balanced blend products contain an even 1:1 ratio of THC and CBD.

Common cannabis terms explained

Cannabinoids

The cannabis plant contains multiple active ingredients, including a group of compounds known as cannabinoids. THC and CBD are the most well-known and well-studied cannabinoids.

“Entourage effect”

This term refers to the hypothesis that cannabinoids and/or terpenes consumed together have a different, synergistic effect than if the individual cannabinoids and/or terpenes were to be consumed alone.

THC vs. CBD

When it comes to CBD vs THC, CBD is non-intoxicating at medically relevant doses. In contrast, THC is the main intoxicating compound in cannabis, responsible for the sensation of “being high.” The higher the THC content of a product, the more likely you are to experience adverse effects and greater
levels of impairment.

Terpenes

Terpenes are naturally occurring, aromatic compounds found in cannabis that contribute to the unique flavour and aroma of cannabis flowers. Terpenes are also found in a variety of fruits, plants, and flowers.

Minor Cannabinoids

While THC and CBD are well-known and well-researched, many other cannabinoids (called minor cannabinoids) are also present in cannabis. These minor cannabinoids like CBG, CBN, and CBC, still require further research for us to fully understand their properties.
